Fire Safety Stick

Did you know...

A traditional 1kg Dry Powder extinguisher has a discharge
time of less than 7 seconds? With the Fire Safety Stick you have
over 50 seconds as a minimum.

The world’s most compact, lightweight fire extinguisher with a 15 year minimum shelf life!

Fire Extinguishers have not changed much in the past 100 years. Traditionally a large, heavy cylinder can often leave a damaging mess. The Fire Safety Stick causes no damage or messy residue.

Fire Safety Stick uses a tested and proven technology, created for the space programme, that fights fires on the molecular level. By chemically interrupting the chain of combustion, Fire Safety Stick safely and effectively puts out fires without the mess, toxicity, or danger associated with a traditional extinguisher.

Plus, unlike traditional extinguishers, it can even be left in an enclosed area to continue to suppress the fire whilst the occupants have escaped to safety. Since the Fire Safety Stick’s discharge time is many times longer than that of a conventional compact extinguisher it’s ideal when used to aid a safe escape.

Where can the Fire Safety Stick be used?

The Fire Safety Stick is non-pressurised in its stable state and so is incredibly safe and durable when carried in vehicles. Plus it has a 15 year shelf life, which is triple that of most traditional extinguishers and yet needs no servicing at all, unlike a typical dry powder extinguisher.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do the Fire Safety Sticks last?

The FSS have a minimum shelf life of 15 years! This far exceeds the shelf life of a traditional fire extinguisher.

Is there any signage to accompany the Fire Safety Stick?

Yes! For both the 50 second and 100 second versions, there is an option to purchase a commercial kit which includes a tamper tag, tamper tag sticker, install sticker and wall sign (option for either a vinyl sticker sign or a rigid photo-luminescent sign).

Can the Fire Safety Sticks replace the fire extinguishers in our factories?

A For commercial internal spaces, installation can be achieved and the business must amend their Risk Assessments, ensure their insurance provider is aware of the change and, on-occasion, seek sign-off from their local fire service/officer. The Fire Safety Stick should be detailed as an ‘aid to escape’.

Is there anything the Fire Safety Stick cannot be used for?

The Fire Safety Stick is suitable for fire classifications: A/B/C/F and Electrical (100,000v).

Some flammable/dangerous materials and substances do require specific (traditional) extinguishers that currently still need to be available to minimise the risks associated with these substances. They may also have their own regulations regarding safe storage or carriage. Generally, in premises where these dangerous materials and substances are held, there will be a Health & Safety Executive/Team who will be aware of the conditions they must enforce/meet both for insurance purposes and employee safety.

Does the Fire Safety Stick work on Lithium batteries?

The Fire Safety Stick has the ability to extinguish electrical fires (up to 100,000 volts), which includes things such as wiring, fuses etc. Unlike with powder extinguishers, which after use will corrode wiring in the weeks/months after use, there is no corrosive residue with the Fire Safety Stick.

However this does not include Lithium batteries. There are a select few extinguishers that claim to work on Lithium batteries but lithium fires are very volatile, fast-changing and can take thousands of gallons of water to cool (depending on the item, see here for an example of the unpredictability of Lithium fires: https://youtu.be/8nz5ijXcckI?si=RlauuL2YL7xDBT7h

In case of a Lithium battery fire, get out as fast as you can and alert the emergency services.

Are the Fire Safety Sticks compliant with British Standards or Kitemark?

These certifications do not apply for the Fire Safety Stick, as they concern the manufacturing process and the compressed chamber itself. Since the Fire Safety Stick does not have any compressed cylinders, this certification process does not apply.

The product does however hold the relevant UKCA and CE certifications for safe use within the UK and Ireland.

Do the Fire Safety Sticks comply with all UK Fire Regulations?

The Fire Safety Sticks comply with the appropriate UK Fire Regulations, where they are suitable for use. Regulations vary with the specific dangers found in different environments and there are some situations in which the Fire Safety Stick would not be the right product to use. For example, some commercial spaces may require extinguishers which have a specific British Standard. For these applications, the Fire Safety Stick may not meet the associated regulations.

In instances away from this (vehicles, low-risk settings), insurance is not in place to enforce anyone to fight fire. It is there to ensure there is suitable aid to escape to minimise risk to employees and premises. It is the business’ responsibility to supply the aids in case exits are blocked.

Are the Fire Safety Sticks approved by the DVLA?

No approval is required from the DVLA to carry the Fire Safety Sticks in vehicles. Some guidelines do exist, such as for licensed taxis to carry a specific extinguisher, but this is determined by local councils, rather than a centralised scheme.

For vehicles carrying oils/chemicals/paint, the business has a responsibility to ensure the driver/occupants are able to fight fire to ensure safe exit from the vehicle. This includes ensuring that the correct type of extinguisher is installed and the Fire Safety Stick would be suitable in this instance.
